Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made an announcement on Nov 21,Thursday in Ottawa.
The two-month Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) break will apply across the country, and is aimed at addressing lingering affordability concerns, according to the federal government.
“Canadians have been through a lot. They work hard. We see that. We’ve been able to get through the past couple of years. Everyone had to tighten their belts a little bit. Now we’re going to be able to give a tax break for all Canadians,” Trudeau said.
In the mean time, on Friday, 22, Nov in Markham, Minister Mary Ng met the ethnic media Editors to express her views on this TGST ax Cut.
“While inflation is back on target and interest rates are dropping faster than anywhere else, we know many Canadians are still feeling the pinch. This week, the Liberal Government announced this holiday season, they’re stepping up to give Canadians a break.
Minister Mary Ng visited Sunny Food Mart to amplify this announcement and talk about what it means.
Minister Mary Ng further said , “We can’t control prices at the checkout, but we can help ease the burden. Starting December 14, we’re giving Canadians a tax break to help them afford the essentials—and save for the things they want. We are providing real relief at the register for Canadians when they need it most’
As of next spring, workers earning less than $150,000 will receive a $250 cheque directly in their account. For example, a family in Ontario spending $2,000 would save $260 on qualifying goods between December 14 and February 15.”.
