17th Annual Edison Awards Press Conference and Preview Held in Penang- Malaysia
17வது ஆண்டு எடிசன் திரை விருதுகள் நிகழ்வின் முன்னோட்டம் மற்றும் பத்திரிக்கையாளர் சந்திப்பு மார்ச் 1 சனிக்கிழமை மாலை பினாங்கு லைட் ஓட்டலில் (The Light Hotel) நடைபெற்றது. அந்நிகழ்வில் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக நடிகர் சதீஷ், பினாங்கு மாநில அமைச்சர் டத்தோஸ்ரீ சுந்தர்ராஜு, ஆட்சி குழு உறுப்பினர் மாண்புமிகு குமரன், பினாங்கு மாநில மேயர் டத்தோ ராஜேந்திரன், டத்தோ பார்த்திபன், முதலமைச்சர் அலுவலக மேலாளர் டத்தின் பாரதி ஆகியோர் கலந்து கொண்ட நிகழ்வில் பல்வேறு சுவாரஸ்யமான நிகழ்வுகள் நடைபெற்றது.
நடிகர் சதீஷ் பேசும்போது சினிமாவை தாமஸ் ஆல்வா எடிசன் கண்டுபிடித்திருக்கலாம் ஆனால் அவர் பெயரில் விருது வழங்க வேண்டும் என எண்ணம் தோன்றியது செல்வகுமாரையே சாரும். கடத்த 16 ஆண்டுகளாக பல்வேறு நடிகர் நடிகைகளுக்கு இயக்குனர்கள், இசையமைப்பாளர்கள், பின்னணி பாடகர்கள், என சினிமா துறைக்கு தொடர்ந்து விருது வழங்கிய ஊக்குவித்து வருகிறார் என செய்தியாளர் சந்திப்பில் தெரிவித்தார்.

பத்திரிகையாளர்களும் முன்னணி தொழிலதிபர்களும் கலந்து கொண்டு தொடர்ச்சியாக வாக்களித்தனர். இந்நிகழ்வானது ஏப்ரல் ஐந்தாம் தேதி சனிக்கிழமை மாலை 5 மணிக்கு Spice Arena என்ற அரங்கில் எடிசன் திரை விருதுகள் நிகழ்வு நடைபெறும் எனவும் பார்வையாளர்கள் டிக்கெட்டை எப்படி முன்பதிவு செய்வது என்பதை எடிசன் விருது குழு தலைவர் செல்வக்குமார் தெரிவித்தார்.
மேலும் முதன் முறையாக பினாங்கில் நடவிருக்கும் எடிசன் பிலிம் பெஸ்டிவலில் (Edison Film Festival) 5 திரைப்படங்கள் அமரன், மகாராஜா, விடுதலை 2, மெய்யழகன், லப்பர் பந்து GSC Queens bay மாலில் ஆம் தேதி திரையிடப்பட உள்ளதாகவும் தெரிவித்தார்.
இந்நிகழ்வில் கலந்து கொள்ளும் எடிசன் திரை விருது ரசிகர்களுக்கு தங்களுக்கு பிடித்தமான நடிகரின் படம் போட்ட டி-ஷர்டையும் (T-Shirt) விற்பனை செய்ய உள்ளதாக செல்வகுமார் தெரிவித்தார்.
A press conference and preview event for the 17th Annual Edison Awards took place on Saturday, March 1 at The Light Hotel in Penang. The gathering was graced by several notable figures, including actor Sathish; Penang State Minister Dato’ Sri Sundararajoo; Exco Member YB Kumaran; the Mayor of Penang, Datuk Rajendran; Datuk Parthiban; and Datin Bharathi from the Chief Minister’s Office. Various engaging activities and announcements highlighted the event.
Actor Sathish, in his address, noted that while Thomas Alva Edison may have invented cinema, it was Mr. Selvakumar who conceived the idea of bestowing awards in Edison’s name. For the past 16 years, Mr. Selvakumar has continuously honored and encouraged actors, directors, music composers, and playback singers through the Edison Awards.
Dato’ Sri Sundararajoo, speaking at the conference, remarked that as politicians, they draw inspiration from the late actor-politician M.G. Ramachandran, who dedicated himself both to cinema and public service. This legacy, he added, continues to guide their community-focused efforts today.
During a live voting session, actor Sathish humorously cast his own vote for himself in the “Best Entertainer” category, explaining his reasons. Dato’ Sri Sundararajoo revealed that he gave his first vote to Sathish and his second vote to Sivakarthikeyan for his portrayal in a film about a soldier who died serving the nation. Members of the press and leading industrialists also took part in the voting process.
Mr. Selvakumar, Chairman of the Edison Awards Committee, announced that the 17th Annual Edison Awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at the Spice Arena in Penang. He shared details on how fans can reserve tickets for the event. Additionally, the Edison Film Festival will make its debut in Penang, featuring five films: Amaran, Maharaja, Viduthalai 2, Meiyazhagan, and Lubber Pandhu on April 4, 2025 @GSC Queensbay.
In a final highlight, Mr. Selvakumar mentioned that fans attending the Edison Awards will be able to purchase T-shirts adorned with the posters of their favorite stars’ films, adding an extra layer of excitement for movie enthusiasts.
